After 12 years of trying, we were blessed with a beautiful baby boy
Change needed to be made, so we created the AKIN Fertility Foundation.
Sara was the first employee to use a surrogate at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles’ largest private employer, so the policy had never been previously challenged. We leveraged our network and met with the head of administration, HR and communications to advocate for change. Alumni and trustees learned of our situation and made calls to support us. On May 11, 2018, USC changed their parental leave policy to include equal benefits for adoptions, surrogates and natural births. We’ve worked with other businesses and are our proud to say that Hudson Jeans offers the same policy and the Minnesota Twins will be changing their policy as well.
Change needs to be made, and we invite you to join AKIN Fertility Foundation and help us advocate for the hundreds of thousands of people who have and continue to live through a similar struggle.
